Just like my all other Pakistani brothers and sisters, I was also shocked when I heard the news that Pakistan armed forces and intelligence agencies did nothing in Operation Geronimo. I also raised many questions which I mentioned in my previous article (to read my previous article please go to this link: ). Through my article I asked from the chief of armed forces that why they let a foreign force to attack on our sovereignty. But now as picture is getting clear we have answers to some of our questions.
Question 1 was about how American helicopters entered Pakistan without being noticed? Explanation which was given by ISPR seems to be logical if it is true what they are saying and I believe that it is true. Pakistan is not facing any threat from Afghan border and therefore much of our radar system was placed on border with India. Besides
Question 2 was that when armed forces knew about foreign helicopters on their soil why didn’t they respond? Explanation offered by ISPR is that COAS called Air Chief and informed him about helicopters. Air chief ordered his men to shoot those helicopters. But when our night vision jet fighters reached Abbottabad, Americans had already finished the operation and they had already gone back.
After these explanations, some of my Pakistani brothers and sisters are still questioning their armed forces for many things like:
Operation lasted for 40 minutes so how it is possible that our jets did not reached at time? Well to my understanding, this operation did not last for 40 minutes. It was only a few minutes operation. As from the new media reports and from US president office, OSAMA BIN LADEN was unarmed. Only one guard from OSAMA’s compound fired which was immediately shot. No other person fired even OSAMA BIN LADEN did not fired as he was unarmed. Now how is it possible that American armed force personnel especially commandoes kept fighting with a single person for 40 minutes? How much ammunition OSAMA had in his compound? Who had more ammunition? OSAMA or American armed forces personnel?
My second argument is that Americans also used bombs which make a person unmoving (according to some media reports). So how is it possible that all of them were not moving and at the same time firing at armed personnel? Therefore I would conclude this point by saying that operation only lasted for few minutes. By the way there is another report from US media that operation Geronimo lasted for only three minutes. This explains that when our fighter jets reached there American helicopters were already back.
Some of Pakistani people are also saying that our armed forces are incapable and same thing can happen to our nuclear assets. Well to make them clear about this thing, there is huge difference between a home and nuclear installation. Security levels are much higher. Americans do not even know where are our nuclear arsenals (according to US’s own media reports) so how they can bomb those places?
Another propaganda by few of the people is that when we are paying so much to army then why they do not have best technology in the world. Answer to this is very simple if one wants to understand. Our major threat is India so our whole technology is India centric. This time it was a world super power that has such kind of technology which no other country has. Take the example of stealth helicopters used in this operation. Besides this high-tech radars have a life of 9 years at most and they need overhauling after three years. These radars are very expensive and a country like Pakistan cannot afford such technology.
At the end I would like to address those especially US and Indian officials who are maligning our intelligence agency that they are incapable. Well for them, I would say that where were they when CIA failed to even get a hint of 9/11? Was CIA incapable? Similarly, where was RAW when Mumbai attacks happened? Was RAW incapable? If YES then why they do not accept it first? ISI is not GOD that they will know each and everything but at the same time I will say that they are very powerful and OSAMA BIN LADEN would have never been traced if ISI was not capable enough.
Our armed forces are doing best which they can do in their budget so we should support them in this hour of need because we are living in a free country because of them. Otherwise who knows what will happen if our armed forces and intelligence agencies become like President and Prime Minister Houses.
LONG LIVE PAKISTAN
I have a few comments in my mind:
ReplyDelete1) arent there also other stories by Army or ISI about the radars? to the best of my knowledge, the Pakistan Army has accepted the fact that their helicopters were not detected by our radars.
2) secondly, i agree with your proposition that ISI is not God and can make mistakes. So just like CIA showed negligence in case of 9/11, RAW showed negligence in mumbai case, ISI showed negligence in this case. The good thing about ISI is that it has accepted its negligence and Gn Pasha even offered his resignation. Dignity is in accepting the truth.
3) on your thesis about the time duration of the operation i would disagree a little. I guess the time duration required to enter the soil of Pakistan, then landing on OBL house, doing the operation, and going out of Pakistan soil would need more than 3 minutes. not to forget that one helicopter was down and they (according to some news) had to collect the helicopter garbage as well. hence if not 40 minutes, it should take atleast 20 minutes or so.
4) As far as nuclear installations are concerned,i agree with you that they will be in high security zone. however, this operation has at least given us a direction that how we CAN deal with US. For a sovereign country, every inch of its soil should be as important as any other.
Besides everything, nobody would have pointed these many fingers at ISI and Army, if they would have told the truth at first instance. ISI and Army are one of the most prestigious institutes of Pakistan and they should be regarded and appreciated for their service to our country. The government, ISI and Army should be visionary and wise enough to keep the dignity of these institutes alive and intact in the nation.
